An Aquatics Wellness Community Center for Toledo, Oh?

Well....what do you think about that?  Well.....that's what I am thinking about.  A JP Aquatics Wellness Center in our community?  You ask what is that?  Well.....I am glad you asked!  A JP Aquatics Wellness Center would be just like a water gym.  There would be swimming lessons and drowning prevention education.  There would be a nice and warm therapy pool.  There would be 4 pillars:  Rehab, Learn to swim (of course) competitive, and fitness...and that would help us to sustain  the Aquatic Facility.  We could also have a retail store for swim wear and equipment and I won't give you all of my ideas - let me hear some of yours.  Do you agree with this concept?  With there being no pools open in our community - I say let's build one to teach swimming and other water related sports to prevent drowning and to stay healthy!!!  Water can heal....and/or water can kill!(( ;......I am all for healing and wellness................drowning prevention and expanding our knowledge of aquatic skills.  We want to build careers in aquatics and be healthy and fit in aquatics!

For Your Convenience

Hi Friends,

Tankeeya here, and I would like you to know for the very first time, The Josh Project is offering the ability to register for swimming lessons online!  How exciting right?

For those of you who have signed up for our email updates, an invitation was sent via Eventbrite earlier today.  Hopefully, it didn't go to your spam box.  If you know for a fact that you should be on our email list and you didn't receive an invitation, please check there.

For those who have received the invitation, I would like your feedback.  Let me know if you love it, like it, or even if you don't like it.  Our goal is to provide a convenient way for you to sign your loved one up for water safety education and swim instruction.

What about being able to donate online you ask?  Coming soon to a website near you!

Thanks for being a friend of The Josh Project and please share your thoughts.

See you at the Pool!

Our special guest coming all the way from Lincoln, Nebraska will be Josh The Baby Otter.  Please click on this link to learn about this wonderful safety mascot dedicated to teaching children about being safe around water. http://www.joshtheotter.org/

Session 8

Hi Everyone,

The final session of the 2010-2011 season is underway and boy has it been busy!  Our program has grown tremendously over the last couple of months and I think that it is a direct result of our Water Safety Day in May.  That day we signed up over 80 new students and many of those have continued in the program as a result!  Session 8 has 97 students!

With all of this growth we have experienced some growing pains.  Keeping track of all of those eager students has been a challenge but I am happy to say that we are getting through it!

I would like to thank our friends in the local media for their coverage of our efforts.  Jason Mack with the Toledo Free Press wrote an outstanding article detailing our program and the importance of everyone becoming water safe.  If you missed it I have a link here. http://www.toledofreepress.com/2011/05/23/josh-project-promotes-water-safety/.  Furthermore, I would like to also recognize Editor in Chief of Toledo Free Press, Michael S. Miller.   When I contacted him about writing a story about us, he agreed without hesitation.  I know that there are many charitable organizations in the community with causes just as newsworthy as ours, and I appreciate  the time and space given to our mission to save lives.

I would also like to thank Rose Russell at the Toledo Blade.  Rose not only highlighted the work we do at the The Josh Project, but she further helped our cause by reminding everyone to think "Safety First" around the pool.  Here is a link to her article as well. http://www.toledoblade.com/local/2011/05/22/Swim-safety.print

I would also like to acknowledge The Sojourner's Truth and Fletcher Word for printing an article written by TJP Board member David Jones, III.  Mr. Jones's article highlighted the pressing need for water safety education in the community and more specifically communities of color, as they experience water related injury and fatality 3-4 times more than their white counterparts.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge our other friends in the broadcast media:  BCSN, WTVG, Fox Toledo,  and WTOL.  Thanks for the great coverage our press release with City Council President, Wilma Brown and past fire chief Mike Wolever.

There are many others who walked with us on this journey from the very beginning and continue to stay by our side through every bend in the road.  I won't mention everyone by name as I will undoubtedly miss someone!  But to every person that has ever volunteered, given donations, supported our events, or said a kind word of encouragement I would like to say a heartfelt

Thank you!!!!!

Successful!!!

Hello All:
Well - I am "pleased as punch" and sporting a "kool-aid"smile as I write about our 1st Press Conference and our 1st Water Safety Day!!  Attendance was good and participation was excellent!  From the friendly fire fighters who are also deep water divers who gave us great insight on how they save lives; the wonderful US Coast Guard Aux. who showed us how to wear our life jackets and be safe in the waters; the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron and their hands on info with coloring books and more stuff on how to be safe in the water; the "Safe Swimmer Pledge Badges" that the children were able to use their artistic abilities and color and wear, our Safe Kids station with neck pledges on how to be safe in the waters, the Soroity with the Safe 25 pledge, and let's see - who else did we have have?  Oh yes - the REGISTRATION of new students - we had a whopping 70+ and we were still receiving calls this week!!!!  So all in all our 1st Water Safety went pretty well - of course it wasn't perfect and their is lots of room for us to improve and make it better next year (and we will) but for a first - I would say it was pretty darn good.  I give God all the GLORY!!

See ya on deck!

Pumped up!!

Hello All:

I am so excited and pumped!!!  The 1st Annual Water Safety Day is almost here!! We've had the Press Conference with close to 30 that's right 30 people in attendance.  Three different TV stations were in attendance, my 80 year old mother and my 82 year old father were also present.  I am so thankful and grateful for everything that has led up to this date.  I did not see any of  this back in August 2006 when my son drowned.  I could only see heartache and pain.  But now because of God's plan for Josh's life I can see clearly now.  I am looking forward to Saturday's event.  We have so many great people who have contributed to the Josh Project -  won't even try to name them all but - I hope you know who you are.  From the Proclamation from Mayor Bell - read by Council President Wilma D. Brown and all the rest (I can't name all 30 of you) but believe me  I appreciate all of you that came.  My daughter Tankeeya who read my speech so graciously, Rosalinda & Tiffany my sisters in life from other mothers and you, you & you.  Thank you for being there!!  God loves all of you and I do too!  See you on Saturday!
